Random musing

I really have so much admiration for designers and other such people. The amount of time and effort that goes into producing something must be so much. I mean, I have been working on my website this past week (thus the lack of updates - many apologies) and good lord it’s taking a long time.

But the end product must be so rewarding - to see the clothes you (or your design team, whatever designer types do) have slaved over for months on the catwalk. Of course, I have more admiration for intelligent designers (because frankly, some of them strike me as pretty dim) and the ones who have built their business from nothing, although when they’re arrogant about that fact it irritates me. Nonetheless, anyone whose managed to be successful with whatever they’ve done (be it fashion or working with chimps - literally anything worthwhile that’s been born from sweat and tears blah blah blah… you get the idea) does deserve recognition.

The best present…

…Thermal leggings!!

Haha, just kidding, although they keep you rather snug when ice-skating.

I think some sales shopping is in order from the aquired christmas money. I have no idea if they’ve started yet though. Real clothes (for reduced prices) here I come!

A new oath

A rather amusing take of a prayer on La Femme.

“…Give us this day, our Visa Gold
And forgive us our balance
As we forgive those who charge us interest
Lead us not into Wal-Mart…”

Blasphemous, but I’m not particularly relgious. Very funny in my opinion.

Illness strikes…

…And Project Catwalk re-runs are the only decent thing to watch on the tele.

Generally, I do loathe reality shows - Big Brother, The X factor, dancey prancey type things; hate them all. But Project Catwalk I can stand (I can stand project runway, though I’ve only seen series 1). I think it’s only because I do get some ideas from what they do and how they do it. It still shocks me how quickly they can strin something together. Anyway, series 2 starts in January, whether I’ll watch it, I don’t know.

Leggings for the faint hearted

You know my aversion to footless tights. I really really detest them… yet somehow, I quite like this look. I know they’re leggings, which is different to footless tights, but the principle is more or less the same. I find the leggings look more tasteful and it’s slightly different (you don’t look like a sheep to trends… I think I just have an anti-trend thing or fear of looking like everyone else).

To be honest, I generally quite like leggings (although I wouldn’t wear them because you need good legs). You could wear them with quite a voluminous top, long t-shirts or as pictured here. They’re quite versitile really. Hmm, *ponders*…

Lash out

I’m not one who experiments much with makeup, simply because I am lazy. I think many people at school think I don’t know anything; little do they know about my obsession with beauty back when I was 12.My dad had banned me from buying clothes for the summer (Goodness knows why, he claimed I had a lot and they were expensive, this was a lie). So to irritate him mainly, I started buying loads of beauty crap. Mostly skin products (take it from me, half of them do not work) but also hair products and makeup. This was about the time I discovered the wonder of eyelash curlers. I already have quite long & thick eyelashes, but they aren’t particually curly (unlike a friend of mine, who has the longest and curliest eyelashes I’ve seen), so these were quite literally amazing. There are loads of different types - plastic, metal (like above) and heated ones. Personally, I avoid heated ones because I am afraid that they’ll burn my eye, but apparently, it lasts longer. Plastic ones are meant to be better than metal ones because they are less prone to removing your eyelashes, but if used correctly, the metal ones are good. Many of you, I’m sure already use lash curlers, but if not, try it out and see what you think.

It’s a miracle… I’m alive!

Everything I thought was confirmed - Birmingham was a hell-hole today. I purchased no christmas presents for anyone (I did purchase some purple satin fabric for my flipping prom dress - more on that closer to the time).

Anyway, I just wanted to mention this coat in h&m… I am rather attracted to it. As my friend put it “It’s nice in a rather rank way” (rank= disgusting, for those who don’t know). The downside is it cost £60, which is quite a bit for someone such as myself. I thought I would wait until after christmas to buy clothes, simply because it’ll all be mega sale after christmas. Which gives me great joy.

Final thing of the day : the photo on the left is of this rope decoration thing in Topshop in the Bullring.

The conversation went like this:
Friend- Why do they have ropes hanging from the ceiling?
Me-  I have no idea.
Friend- Well, you’d think they would be more careful with all the emos coming in to shop.

My apologies if you take offence to that, but it struck me as very funny.

Christmas cheers… hmm

My apologies for not updating since errm, Friday I think it was. The week has not been my usual and rather more hectic than normal and well, I can’t really say that this is a proper post.

Well, it’s that time of year again, when everyone puts up crappy christmas lights in a bid to be the brightest in the road (I don’t mind christmas lights that twinkle, but it’s those giant father christmas ones I hate) and this year it seems the craze is bright blue lights, that personally, I find rather revolting. Three houses in my street alone have these blue lights, I fear for my eyes when I look out of the window. I don’t feel christmas ought to be upon us quite yet, it just seems far too early and that’s why I have not done any of my christmas shopping yet. I can’t justify spending money on something that will be reduced a considerable amount in a few weeks (probably the best part of the whole christmas experience, other than christmas day which I spend with my family), unfortunately though, it must be done, so I’ll be braving being beaten by the crowds this weekend. We’ll see if I’m still alive after that.

It’s in the jeans

I really like the jeans this model has.

I am a bit fed up of skinny jeans now (although the trend is alive and well) - wearing and seeing, no matter how much I have grown to like the trend. I may practically live in my jeans, but I’m not an expert on the trends or styles etc (Denimology is good for that), but I do think something along the lines of what this model is wearing is a look for the future.

Music is my influence

Music can be inspirational when choosing what to wear. I think most people agree. I mean there are stereotypes anyway. You could go for any kind of music and say that people who listen to that have a certain style. I however, do not like to follow the stereotype, so I don’t actually class myself in any group. There is no denying however that what I wear is influenced, a little, by the music I’m listening to.

Recently, I have been listening to Cansei De Ser Sexy or CSS, who are a brazilian band and play things like Music is my hot hot sex, Art bitch and I wanna be your J.Lo. I’ve become rather obsessed because I am going to see them on Tuesday (haven’t been to a gig in over a year, so who can blame me?! Of course, I need to buy a ticket first).

But I have found, every time I listen to them, I want to wear something really weird. I don’t quite know what I mean, but something weird. And brightly coloured.

Myspace for fashion

Iqons is a relatively newish site that has been designed to connect the fashion world. According to the site, it aims to “set fashion free” and “have the same impact on the fashion as myspace did on music”.

I first heard about it on Stylebubble last week and after looking at it and pondering about it, I think it’s an excellent idea! Although I doubt I’ll be signing up, if you are a designer, photographer… whatever, who wants to be recognised, it may be worth joining. I think I may be browsing this randomly on occasion as it looks quite good.

It involved some flight

I apologise for the amount of posts I am doing on the clotheshow. As it is the only thing related to fashion that I have been able to experienced recently, it’s the only thing I can really blog about. Now my mocks are over, hopefully I’ll be able to post about other things.

Back to the clotheshow for now. I took a few photos of the actual show, they are quite dark and not that great, but I thought I’d post them anyway.

The first dance (yes, the models did dance) catwalk thing had this season’s plaid/tartan and grunge theme going on.

Caprice also showed her new underwear line (wasn’t she

some kind of singer or actress or something? Since when has she been designing?) and she flew through the air.

There were some other dance-y things, which I didn’t really take photos of because by that point I’d given up attempting.

Bitter disappointment

Well, the clotheshow was a bit of a disappointment this year. I queued up half an hour for the cashpoint and I didn’t even spend any of it (I only purchased a dress and a t-shirt). The show wasn’t too bad, although we ended up further from the front than anticipated and all the way through I was thinking “if only I had a fat camera (SLR) and could stand in the little box and take some better photos”. The ones I took are quite bad. I attempted to take a video to show how they make it more interesting with all the dancing etc. So yes, I shall post those later.
